My name is Nancy Chaanine. I was born in Beirut, Lebanon on May 9, 1982. My family moved to California in 1986 when I was four, then to North Carolina in 1994 when I was 12; where I have lived ever since.
The interest in singing and dancing began when I was 6 years old watching Star Search and singing along with Disney Movies. When I was younger I loved watching MTV and VH1 music videos. I would tape all of my favorites so I could sing along to the singers I liked and learn the choreography to the best dance videos. I remember being so excited for the premier of Janet Jackson's new video "IF," I watched all day so I wouldn't miss it. The singers I loved to mimic were Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and Celine Dion, because of their amazing range. I would also act out and sing along to every Disney movie I owned.
Unfortunately my parents worked a lot when I was growing up so I wasn't able to take a lot of voice and dance lessons. I basically learned by watching and listening to others! Growing up my mom threw great parties where there was food, loud music and belly dancing. That's how I learned to belly dance!!
Whenever I had the opportunity to dance or sing, without having my parents pay for lessons, I did it. In middle school I auditioned and made the dance team and played the flute. In high school I performed with the winter guard and color guard. I also sang in my chorus class and was asked to audition for small ensemble, which allowed me to sing and dance. In college I signed up for a jazz class, a voice class, and a couple of guitar classes. I graduated with a degree in business management.
While attending school and working, I participated in bridal shows, a seventeen magazine runway show, hair shows, an American Eagle commercial along with their print ads, and sang at weddings and many other organizations.
I have always had a passion for the arts. I love to watch amazing performances like Cirque du Soleil, Ballroom Dancing, Cheerleading and Dance competitions. I get so excited over watching artists perform high energy shows and strive to do the same one day.
I worked in a few different studios with different producers over the past few years, but have recently attempted writing my own songs. In November 2005 I met two great women who have connected me with the writers of my demo. Now that my demo is complete, I am ready to be a part of the music world and venture out into so many different opportunities that come my way.
